The tasting room at Del Vino Vineyards in Northport opened for business Thursday night.
The opening was much anticipated by both the community and owner Frederick Giachetti, who bought the 10-acre, residentially zoned land on Norwood Road for $2.45 million in December 2012 and cleared several hurdles in order to open one of Long Island’s few vineyards outside the East End.
The property had been used for farming decades ago, producing apples, blackberries, strawberries and potatoes.
In addition to wine, Del Vino serves a few microbrew choices and a light food menu with items like Margherita pizza, Bavarian pretzels and an artisan meat and cheese platter.
Del Vino, which has a large bar area and indoor and outdoor dining areas, including an upstairs room for private parties of up to 40 people, is open Thursdays through Sundays.
